Northwestern is moving into life without longtime head coach Pat Fitzgerald after he was dismissed on Monday. One of the big question marks the program needed to address is what the coaching staff will look like for the season ahead.
Already, it has been reported that David Braun — the recently hired DC from FCS powerhouse North Dakota State — will serve as acting head coach. As for the rest of the staff, that decision was reportedly made Tuesday afternoon.
According to ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, Northwestern will retain the assistant coaches and support staff for the 2023 season. The coaches and staff were all informed of that decision in a meeting with AD Derrick Gragg.

While Braun is a recently hired piece of the staff, those retainments also include OC and QBs coach Mike Bajakian who was hired late in 2019. One of those assistants also includes safeties coach and Associate head coach Matt MacPherson, a longtime assistant under Fitzgerald.
Along with the coaching staff, we will also have to see if any Northwestern players make the move for the transfer portal with the season quickly approaching.
