Cy-Hawk rivalry: Iowa-Iowa State players to face off in celebrity softball game

The Cy-Hawk rivalry remains one of the best nonconference showdowns and in-state rivalry series in the country. Now, the series between Iowa and Iowa State is getting ready to add another chapter away from the gridiron.

Brent Blum — Executive Director for the We Will Collective benefitting Cyclone NIL efforts — announced the first-ever Cy-Hawk celebrity softball game. That matchup is set for Saturday, July 23 at 5 pm.

The event will help support Make-A-Wish Iowa at $10 per person. Some of the stars suiting up for Iowa include QB Cade McNamara, DB Cooper DeJean, DB Xavier Nwankpa, TE Luke Lachey and DL Aaron Graves.

Cy-Hawk football rivalry

Iowa leads the all-time Cy-Hawk series 46-23, though the most recent matchup went to the Cyclones. Iowa State beat Iowa 10-7 in Iowa City as the Hawkeyes continued a string of abysmal offense to begin the 2022 season.

Fortunately, the Hawkeyes have won 7 of the last 9 meetings and have 5 straight matchups in Ames. This year’s matchup will be played at Iowa State on Sept. 9. We’ll see who wins bragging rights in this state for 2023.
