Matt Painter was named the assistant coach for the USA Basketball National Select Team Monday ahead of the FIBA Men’s World Cup. The World Cup will start in late August.
Painter is one of 3 coaches on the staff, joining Orlando Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley (HC) and the Indiana Pacers’ Jim Boylen (Assistant).
This is hardly Painter’s first rodeo with USA Basketball. He was an assistant coach on the 2009 team that won gold at the FIBA U19 World Championships and was the head coach of the U.S. team in the 2011 and 2017 World University Games.
Since, Painter has served on the committee for the U18 and U19 National Teams.
