Jim Harbaugh is negotiating details of a potential 4-game suspension with the NCAA, according to a report.

While no suspension has been finalized, Harbaugh’s attorney, Tom Mars, released a statement to ESPN on Tuesday shortly after news of the pending suspension first broke.

Here’s the statement:

“We are continuing to work cooperatively with the NCAA staff on an enforcement matter.  At this time, we are not allowed to comment on possible penalties or other aspects of the matter.”

The suspension stems from Harbaugh’s alleged response to an investigation into impermissible contact with a recruit and the use of a defensive analyst in an on-field coaching role. Harbaugh allegedly made false statements to investigators who were looking into Michigan’s violations.

According to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, Harbaugh has refused to admit that he purposefully misled investigators during the process.

Michigan’s first 4 games of the 2023 season are against East Carolina, UNLV, Bowling Green and Rutgers. All 4 of those contests are at home.

If Harbaugh is cleared to return by Week 5, his first game of the 2023 season would be against Nebraska on Sept. 30 in Lincoln. His first home game would be against Indiana on Oct. 14.
