Mel Tucker had plenty of great things to say about Michigan State quarterback Noah Kim at Big Ten Media Days on Wednesday.

Kim is expected to compete alongside redshirt freshman Katin Houser for the starting quarterback job during fall camp. Tucker was asked about Kim, the favorite to win the job, in Indianapolis on Wednesday.

“Noah is a tremendously talented young man,” Tucker said. “He’s a winner. He’s got a lot of arm talent. He’s very poised, he’s very athletic. He’s one of the fastest players on our team, he’s in the top 20.

Kim did earn some playing time last season in relief of Payton Thorne, who transferred to Auburn earlier this offseason. He put up impressive numbers in a small sample: 14-of-19 completions for 174 yards, 3 touchdowns and 0 interceptions.

“He’s got some experience,” Tucker added. “When he went in games last season, he made it look easy. He’s just got the demeanor that we’re looking for.

“He’s a guy that knows our offense and he’s going to do what we ask him to do. He’s going to execute.”

Kim signed with the Spartans as a 3-star prospect out of Virginia in the class of 2020. This will be his 4th season with Michigan State.

Michigan State opens the season against Michigan State on Sept. 1.
