Mike Riley sends out heartfelt message, says he’s ‘thankful’ for time at Nebraska

Mike Riley has long been regarded as one of the nice guys in college football. His soft-spoken demeanor an polite attitude was always an endearing quality for the former Nebraska head coach.
Riley continued to live up to that image on Saturday, even after being fired by Nebraska athletic director Bill Moos. After being told he would not be retained for the 2018 season, Riley sent out a heartfelt message on Twitter stating how thankful he was for the opportunity he received to coach the Huskers.
“I am very thankful for the people I’ve met in this program and this state,” Riley wrote. “Most of all I’m thankful for this team. When you go into a place it very quickly becomes all about the people, and we are going to miss all of these great people.”
Riley continued to say that Nebraska “is an awesome place” and he will miss all of the people associated with the program. Here’s the full message that was sent out on Saturday:

Riley was fired on Saturday morning after a 56-14 loss to Iowa at Memorial Stadium. The Huskers finished the 2017 season with a 4-8 record with multiple blowout losses.
In three seasons in Lincoln, Riley posted a 19-19 record and had two losing seasons (2015, 2017). The Huskers were also 1-1 in bowl games and were below .500 in B1G contests.
As of right now, Riley’s name has not been associated with any head coaching vacancies.
