Michigan is coming off of back-to-back B1G championships, an accomplishment that has a lot to do with the program’s strength up front. The Wolverines have captured the Joe Moore Award for the nation’s top offensive line each of the past two seasons.

Entering 2023, Michigan once again has an elite group up front. That was evidenced when the Wolverines placed 4 players on the preseason watch list for the 2023 Outland Trophy. The B1G placed 11 total players on the watch list.

The Outland Trophy is handed out annually and is the third-oldest major award in college football. It is given to the best interior lineman in the country with offensive and defensive players eligible for the honor.

These are the Wolverines being considered on the preseason watch list:

  • DT Kris Jenkins
  • G Trevor Keegan
  • C Drake Nugent
  • G Zak Zinter

Three of those four players are program veterans while Nugent is a newcomer that transferred from Stanford this offseason. Olusegun Oluwatimi captured the 2022 Outland Trophy in his first season with Michigan after transferring from Virginia.

As always, players can play their way on — or off — the watch list throughout the season. A group of 3 finalists will be announced later in the season.
