Volleyball in the B1G is just different.

Several of the largest names in the sport hail from the B1G, including Minnesota, Wisconsin and of course Nebraska. Back in February the Huskers volleyball program announced a ‘Volleyball Day’ match to be held at Memorial Stadium against Nebraska-Omaha, with an exhibition match to start the event off between D2 Nebraska-Kearney and Wayne State college.

On Tuesday, Nebraska volleyball head coach John Cook explained the decision to host the matches at Memorial Stadium, citing a desire to set the collegiate volleyball regular season attendance record, which Wisconsin set last season while hosting Florida.

“It’s a huge celebration and an attempt to break the attendance record, maybe one that will never ever be broken,” Cook said Tuesday.

Of course, he also noted the impact volleyball has had on the state of Nebraska and looked at the event as a way to celebrate what the sport has done for the state.

Check out more of his comments on the match below:

The event is scheduled to be hosted on Wednesday, August 30 at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. CT and the Huskers will start at 7 p.m.

Let’s see if Nebraska can reclaim the attendance record!
