Wisconsin volleyball HC Kelly Sheffield addressed the media Wednesday during the B1G’s volleyball media days. Included in Sheffield’s Q&A session was a question about Nebraska’s “Volleyball Day” matchup in Memorial Stadium.

The Huskers are expecting a packed house inside Nebraska’s renowned football stadium to set the attendance record for a volleyball match. That regular-season attendance record was grabbed by Wisconsin last season when the Badgers hosted Florida inside the Kohl’s Center.

While Sheffield says no discussions have been held about the Badgers hosting a match inside Camp Randall Stadium, he remains excited about Nebraska’s endeavor. Sheffield pointed out this is something that is beneficial for the sport of volleyball, and he hopes the players put on a show for the event.

“There’s been no discussion of having something in Camp Randall. I’m excited. I’ve talked quite a bit about it. Not to brush it aside, I’m really excited for not just Nebraska and Omaha and everybody in that stadium, I’m excited about our sport,” said Sheffield. “I’m excited about women’s sports. I’m excited about sport in general. That’s a number that it shouldn’t just be people that are excited about women’s sports. That’s a big deal no matter where you’re at.

“I’m hoping the weather is cooperative. I’m hoping everybody is playing at their absolute best and they’re putting on a show that further reaches people that might not follow the sport as closely as what everybody in this room does.”
