Mike Yurcich shared an update about the Penn State QB competition at a press conference on Sunday. Now that Sean Clifford is gone the position is wide open.
Yurcich has been impressed with how the position group has handled things so far in camp. Yurcich went as far to describe the group as business-like. He also noted how the quarterbacks all want to compete and are leaders in their own way.
“What’s impressed me about the group is that they are business-like, but they don’t get caught up too much in the consternation,” said Yurcich. “They all want to compete. They are all leaders in their own ways.”

The quarterbacks on the roster include Drew Allar, Jaxon Smolik, Beau Pribula, Karson Kiesewetter, and Jack Lambert.
It’ll be Allar’s job to win after spending the 2022 season backing up Clifford. Allar appeared in 10 games last season and recorded 344 yards passing with 4 touchdowns.
Penn State landed Allar’s commitment from the 2022 class. He was a former 5-star QB and the No. 4 player at his position per the 247Sports Composite.
There’s no telling when the Nittany Lions will reach a decision about who will be QB1. It seems like all of those who are involved are handling things well.
