There was some sad news to report on out of Wisconsin on Sunday. It looks like a veteran member of the team is retiring from football.

Clay Cundiff has suffered many injuries since joining Wisconsin football in 2019. His season was ended by injury in 2021 and 2022. Cundiff appeared in 12 games for the Badgers since 2019.

Cundiff posted a heartfelt goodbye to Wisconsin on his social media page:

“After weeks of difficult contemplation, I have decided to medically retire from the game of football. I have proudly put pads and a jersey on since first grade, but now my body is begging to hang up my cleats. Thank you to every player who stood beside me, to every coach who helped shape me, the trainers and medical staff for all the rehab, and my family for lifting me up every time.”

The Wichita, Kansas native was a former 3-star TE from the 2019 class. The 247Sports Composite listed him as the No. 50 TE and No. 9 prospect in the state.

Like many of his teammates, Cundiff went through a coaching change last season as the program parted ways with Paul Chryst. Chryst was fired after losing to Illinois last season.

It’s terrible that someone who loved football this much is hanging up their cleats.
