Phil Longo discussed how some of Wisconsin’s quarterbacks are doing on Sunday. The team had a scrimmage.
Tanner Mordecai is a new addition to the Badgers after transferring in from SMU. Mordecai posted solid numbers for the Mustangs last season with 3,524 yards passing and 35 total touchdowns. Longo was impressed with Mordecai’s decision-making.
“Today was an outstanding decision-making day for him in all phases. I think we’re really close to getting our starting quarterback where we want him to be from a mental standpoint.
“Today with the 1’s, I was very happy.”
Longo also talked about Oklahoma transfer Nick Evers. The biggest improvement for Evers in Longo’s eyes was the understanding of the offense.
“Nick initially, they know in our room, they’re not getting on the field until they know their job. It’s hard to excel athletically when we’re not in the right place, making the right decisions.
“That was the issue, not just with Nick, but some of the younger guys in the room, that really limited their overall reps. But Nick, some of his biggest improvement is his understanding of the overall offense. That’s earned him some more reps as we’ve gone through this camp.”
It sounds like Mordecai and Evers are adjusting well to Longo’s system at Wisconsin.
