Greg McElroy is gearing up for the 2023 season, tackling a number of “What if?” questions on the “Always College Football” show. Recently, he addressed the status of The Game and what would happen if Michigan makes it 3 straight against the Buckeyes.

Entering the season, Ohio State and Michigan are the top teams in the Big Ten Championship odds this fall, though the Buckeyes have a slight edge. Interested parties can get in on the action with our FanDuel Michigan promo code.

When it comes to The Game, McElroy admitted another loss for Ohio State would leave him feeling bad for Ryan Day. It would also mean Jim Harbaugh found a way to accomplish the previously unthinkable for a 3rd time.

“Well, the first reaction I would have is I feel bad for Ryan Day’s offseason heading into 2024,” McElroy admitted. “Because he has had to endure countless criticism (this offseason)…

“Jim Harbaugh had done the unthinkable, people had said he can’t beat Ohio State and now he (would have) beaten them 3 straight years. And Jim Harbaugh clearly found the recipe (to beat the Buckeyes).”

As far as B1G ramifications go, McElroy indicated another win for Michigan would further cement the Wolverines as the clear top program in the league. Ohio State falling into a clear No. 2 in the pecking order is also something that hasn’t happened in over 20 years.

“The onus if this result happens at season’s end, it would really be more of an overreaction about where Ohio State’s program currently resides,” McElroy claimed. “It would not any longer be a conversation about 1A-1B. It would be a clear Michigan-1, Ohio State-2 which would really be uncomfortable for Buckeyes fans because that has not been the case for the better part of 2 and a half decades.”
