Pat Fitzgerald to be a volunteer football coach this season, per report

Former Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald has taken a position as a parent volunteer for the Loyola Academy football program, which sits roughly 5 miles away from Ryan Field. Fitzgerald has 2 children who attend Loyola Academy as well as an older child that is now an alumnus of the school.
The Record North Shore reported the development, as Loyola Academy also put out a statement that said Fitzgerald underwent training, completed a background check and signed a code of conduct agreement to meet the school’s coaching and volunteering requirements.
Pat Fitzgerald — who has two children at Loyola Academy — will assist the Ramblers football program as a parent volunteer, the school confirmed.

Fitzgerald coached Northwestern for 18 years and led the Wildcats to 2 Big Ten title game appearances, but he was fired in July after there were a myriad of hazing allegations that occurred within the program under his watch. After he was initially suspended, the university parted ways with the long-time coach after several players stepped forward earlier this summer with allegations regarding sexualized and ritualistic hazing practices.
Fitzgerald joins a Loyola Academy program that has enjoyed plenty of recent success. The Ramblers have made 7 state championship games in the past 17 years and are a combined 31-2 over the past 3 seasons. Jack Fitzgerald, Pat’s oldest son, graduated from Loyola Academy in 2023 after he won a state title as a tight end. Ryan Fitzgerald is currently a junior and figures to take over as the starting quarterback this season, according to The Record.
