Matt Hohlt’s Indiana experience has been upgraded ahead of his third season with the Hoosiers. The former walk-on linebacker has been placed on scholarship.
Hohlt was surprised during a recent team meeting. Linebackers coach Chad Wilt recognized Hohlt on the “Swarm D” wall.
“This guy gives it every time he steps on the field, I want this guy in the fox hole with me, because he’s got my 6, he’s gonna have my back” Wilt said of Hohlt. “This guy is one of the ultimate warriors, competitors.”
Head coach Tom Allen noted that the Hoosiers have never had a walk-on make the wall.
“And you know what? We still haven’t, because he’s been put on scholarship!” Allen said, prompting teammates to celebrate the big news.
Hohlt played in 10 games last season as a redshirt freshman. He recorded 19 tackles, including 12 solo stops and 1.5 TFLs.
