ESPN’s FPI is projecting the full results of the 2023 college football season, and the system has predicted every game on Penn State’s schedule.

The Nittany Lions finished the 2022 campaign ranked No. 7 after beating Utah in the Rose Bowl to go 11-2 on the year. James Franklin’s squad enters the 2023 campaign as the No. 7 team in the preseason AP Top 25.

The Football Power Index, meanwhile, has Penn State at No. 10 before the first games of the 2023 college football season are played. While Nittany Lions fans are hoping for a B1G title or more, ESPN Analytics gives PSU just a 6.9% chance of winning the conference, though a better chance of being one of the 4 teams to make the College Football Playoff (12%).

PSU is favored by the FPI in 10 of 12 contests. The only 2 projected losses are to Ohio State and Michigan, teams that made the College Football Playoff in 2022. This year’s Penn State-Michigan game is in tossup territory, as the FPI gives the Wolverines a 52.8% chance to leave Beaver Stadium with the victory.

Here is Penn State’s chance to win in every game, according to the FPI:

  • Sept. 2 vs. West Virginia – 88.5% chance to win
  • Sept. 9 vs. Delaware – 99%
  • Sept. 16 at Illinois – 72.1%
  • Sept. 23 vs. Iowa – 80.8%
  • Sept. 30 at Northwestern – 84.4%
  • Oct. 14 vs. UMass – 98.8%
  • Oct. 21 at Ohio State – 14.2%
  • Oct. 28 vs. Indiana – 92.8%
  • Nov. 4 at Maryland – 73.3%
  • Nov. 11 vs. Michigan – 47.2%
  • Nov. 18 vs. Rutgers – 92.9%
  • Nov. 24 at Michigan State – 65.9% (game at Ford Field in Detroit)
