Former Nebraska QB Casey Thompson is expected to be a starting quarterback this fall.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Monday, per sources, that Thompson is set to be named QB1 for Tom Herman’s Florida Atlantic squad. Herman was the head coach during Thompson’s first 3 seasons at Texas. In 4 seasons with the Longhorns (2018-21), Thompson made 19 appearances with 10 starts.

Thompson started 10-of-12 games for Nebraska in 2022, missing the Minnesota and Michigan games due to injury. He completed 63% of his passes (173-of-274) for 2,407 yards and 17 touchdowns, along with 5 rushing scores. Thompson became the 5th QB in program history with 3 games of 300 yards passing in a season.

Thompson ended his Nebraska career on a high note. He was 20-of-30 passing for 278 yards and 3 TDs in a win over rival Iowa.

In May, Thompson announced his transfer to FAU, departing Nebraska after going through spring practice with the Huskers.
