ESPN’s FPI predicts every game on Illinois’ 2023 schedule

Ahead of the 2023 campaign, ESPN’s FPI has made its predictions for all 12 of Illinois’ regular season games.

The Football Power Index, which measures a team’s true strength against a given opponent, predicts the Fighting Illini having an average year, but Illinois could turn some heads this year. ESPN’s FPI has Illinois having a worse year compared to last season’s 8-5 season that ended with a loss to Mississippi State in the ReliaQuest Bowl.

With a few tricky non-conference games, the early season could be tough for Illinois. And of course any Big 10 schedule is going to be a tough one, but FPI gives Illinois a shot at beating some good opponents.

Here is how ESPN’s FPI predicts each of Illinois’ games going.

  • Sept. 2 vs. Toledo — 78.1% to win
  • Sept. 8 at Kansas — 60.8%
  • Sept. 16 vs. Penn State — 27.9%
  • Sept. 23 vs. FAU — 81.1%
  • Sept. 30 at Purdue — 47.8%
  • Oct. 6 vs. Nebraska — 65.2%
  • Oct. 14 at Maryland — 42.4%
  • Oct. 21 vs. Wisconsin 41.4%
  • Nov. 4 at Minnesota — 39.7%
  • Nov. 11 vs. Indiana — 76.1%
  • Nov. 18 at Iowa — 38.2%
  • Nov. 25 vs. Northwestern — 72.4%
