Ahead of the 2023 campaign, ESPN’s FPI has made its predictions for all 12 of Illinois’ regular season games.
The Football Power Index, which measures a team’s true strength against a given opponent, predicts the Fighting Illini having an average year, but Illinois could turn some heads this year. ESPN’s FPI has Illinois having a worse year compared to last season’s 8-5 season that ended with a loss to Mississippi State in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
With a few tricky non-conference games, the early season could be tough for Illinois. And of course any Big 10 schedule is going to be a tough one, but FPI gives Illinois a shot at beating some good opponents.
Here is how ESPN’s FPI predicts each of Illinois’ games going.
- Sept. 2 vs. Toledo — 78.1% to win
- Sept. 8 at Kansas — 60.8%
- Sept. 16 vs. Penn State — 27.9%
- Sept. 23 vs. FAU — 81.1%
- Sept. 30 at Purdue — 47.8%
- Oct. 6 vs. Nebraska — 65.2%
- Oct. 14 at Maryland — 42.4%
- Oct. 21 vs. Wisconsin 41.4%
- Nov. 4 at Minnesota — 39.7%
- Nov. 11 vs. Indiana — 76.1%
- Nov. 18 at Iowa — 38.2%
- Nov. 25 vs. Northwestern — 72.4%
