Mel Tucker has named a starting quarterback.
Michigan State’s Noah Kim will start under center on Friday night against Central Michigan, Tucker said on his pregame radio show. Kim beat out Katin Houser for the starting job during fall camp.
“Noah’s done a good job, he knows the offense,” Tucker said. “Somebody’s gotta start. And Noah’s earned that opportunity.”

Kim will be making his 1st career start vs. the Chippewas. Last season, he completed 14-of-19 passes for 174 yards, 3 touchdowns and 0 interceptions.
Kim replaces Payton Thorne, who transferred to Auburn earlier this offseason. Houser is entering his redshirt freshman season. He played 6 snaps last year for the Spartans.
Kim was a 3-star recruit in Michigan State’s 2020 recruiting class. He was the No. 43 pro-style quarterback in that cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s originally from Chantilly, Virginia.
Michigan State and Central Michigan will kick off at 7 p.m. ET on Friday evening.
