Drew Allar’s QB1 announcement draws raucous reaction from Penn State fans

Drew Allar is indeed QB1 for Penn State to begin the season, an announcement the program made about 15 minutes prior to kickoff Saturday night.
Throughout training camp, head coach James Franklin refused to name a starting quarterback with Allar and Beau Pribula battling for the spot. Franklin has remained adamant that Pribula is likely to have a role within the offense either way, but Allar was always expected to be the starter to follow Sean Clifford.
That assignment was finally confirmed on the video board Saturday night when Penn State announced the starting lineups. When Allar’s name was confirmed as the starter, fans reacted accordingly inside Beaver Stadium.

While Saturday is Allar’s first official start, he appeared in 10 games as a true freshman with 344 yards, 4 passing touchdowns and no interceptions.
Franklin was asked just prior to kickoff what would make Saturday a successful outing for Allar, and all the head coach wants to see is “a win.” We’ll see if the Nittany Lions — and Allar — are up to the task.
