Kirk Ferentz offered the latest update on DT Noah Shannon’s availability for the rest of this season.

Ferentz said Tuesday that the NCAA upheld its original ruling to suspend Shannon for the entire 2023 season because of the NCAA’s investigation into sports gambling. Shannon, who was previously set to represent Iowa at B1G Media Days but withdrew, made 24 solo tackles and 2 sacks last season. For his career at Iowa, Shannon has made 107 tackles and 4.5 sacks.

Shannon was not allowed to compete during he appeals process, and now the decision is final. Shannon’s Iowa career is over.

Ferentz said he didn’t agree with the ruling and that he was disappointed in the NCAA panel. He reiterated that Shannon did not do anything illegal. Shannon reportedly bet on an Iowa sports team, other than football.

Shannon previously said he broke a rule, and owned up to it.
