Michigan State is reeling this season, dealing with the off-field issues related to head coach Mel Tucker and struggling with back-to-back blowouts on the field. Now, recruits are beginning to reconsider decisions while weighing everything in East Lansing.

One player who has decided to reopen his recruitment is Reggie Powers, an elite safety out of Ohio. He originally committed to Michigan State over the summer but is reopening his recruitment.

Prior to his commitment, Powers generated a host of offers that included UCLA, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Louisville, Duke and others. He’s listed at 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds out of Centerville High School in Dayton, Ohio.

According to the 247 Sports Composite, Powers is a 4-star safety and the 16th overall player out of Ohio. He’s also the No. 36 safety in the country for the class of 2024.

At the end of the day, Michigan State is likely to experience similar decisions from other prospects as the Spartans search for a new coach. It will be up to that new coach to re-shape the 2024 recruiting class.
