Ohio State’s 2018 recruiting class loses No. 1 spot after first day of Early Signing Period

Throughout most of the season, Ohio State owned the nation’s top-ranked recruiting class and appeared to be bringing the premier group to Columbus in 2018. But things took a slight turn after the first day of the new early signing period.
Ohio State lost its stranglehold on the No. 1 spot on Wednesday, thanks mostly to Georgia landing a plethora of four- and five-star recruits. The Buckeyes also missed out on commitments from five-star quarterback Emory Jones and five-star safety Jaiden Woodbey. It wasn’t a far fall for OSU, but it did fall into the No. 2 spot following the first day of the early signing period.
It still owns the top recruiting class in the B1G, narrowly ahead of Penn State.
Georgia brought in six players with a five-star rating, more than any other program in the country. In fact, the Bulldogs had more five-star signees than any other conference in the country. Ohio State had just two five-star commits, defensive tackle Taron Vincent and all-purpose back Jaelen Gill.
Ohio State ended the day with 21 signees and had an overall score of 300.6 on 247Sports. Georgia had 18 signees with five hard commits still remaining. The Bulldogs had a 307.01 score.
There’s still a few days left in this initial signing period and the traditional February date will wrap up this recruiting cycle, so there’s still some time for some jostling in the rankings.
For now, though, the Buckeyes no longer own that top spot.
