Michigan State coaching search: AD Alan Haller addresses process in new letter

Michigan State’s coaching search is one of the biggest ongoing stories of the college football season.
MSU athletic director Alan Haller recently penned a community letter that focuses on the football program. Haller thanked MSU fans and players for how they’ve handled the dismissal of Mel Tucker before acknowledging the search process. As expected, Michigan State will consider current active college football coaches.
“Regarding the search, we will thoroughly evaluate and do everything required to find the right individual to lead the Spartan football program,” Haller wrote. “Throughout the process, I won’t be able to provide many updates. I realize that our community has a tremendous passion for Spartan football and that there’s a great desire for more information about this process. However, privacy is important to attract top-caliber candidates, most of whom are involved in their own current seasons.”
Haller reminded fans that every notable name he speaks to may not be a candidate to be MSU’s head coach.
“I expect that you will hear a lot of names and rumors,” Haller wrote. “I expect to speak with many individuals throughout this process. While some are candidates, others will be resources for me as I go about my due diligence to ensure the best hire for Michigan State.”
Numerous active head coaches and coordinators have been linked to the opening in East Lansing. Last week, Kansas State’s Chris Klieman responded to speculation by saying he will not be a candidate to coach the Spartans.
