Ryan Day and Ohio State entered Week 6 without star running back TreVeyon Henderson in the lineup. Henderson was battling an ailment originally sustained against Notre Dame and was listed as out ahead of kickoff.
During his postgame press conference, the head coach said Ohio State currently expects to have Henderson available for Week 7. Day pointed out the team was trying to avoid a potential setback after the way Henderson battled through injuries a season ago.
“We expect him to be ready next week,” said Day. “It was one of those things where the question was if he played in the game, could he have a setback if something happened in the game? The answer was yes and just based on the way everything played out last year, the decision was made to hold him this week to make sure he was full go next week because we have a lot of football ahead of us.”
Henderson is the team’s leading rusher and the most efficient back so far this season, but Day expressed confidence in Chip Trayanum and Miyan Williams filling in for Henderson.
“We have a ton of confidence in Chip and Miyan in the game to go ahead and go play. And they did, but excited to get Trev back for next week,” said Day. “He could have played in the game, but the decision was made.”
