With Week 6 in the books, ESPN Analytics has updated its rankings models. The Football Power Index (FPI) has processed Saturday’s outcomes and updated its top 25 teams.

ESPN Analytics’ predictive measure of team strength is higher on Ohio State than most everyone else. OSU is the FPI’s No. 1 team. The Buckeyes improved to 5-0 with a Week 6 win over Maryland, but many media members see Michigan as the current top team in the Big Ten.

Michigan was dominant in Week 6, improving to 6-0 with a 52-10 thumping of Minnesota. The ESPN computers, however, weren’t moved by the blowout. The Wolverines remain at No. 8 in the latest FPI rankings.

There was some shuffling in the 4-7 spots of the updated FPI rankings. While Georgia surged and Oregon moved up, Texas and Penn State dropped. The Nittany Lions were off in Week 6, but fell 2 spots to No. 7, still ahead of Michigan.

Outside the top 10, the B1G next pops up in the 20s. Wisconsin moved up 1 spot to No. 23 with its win over Rutgers to improve to 4-1 in Luke Fickell’s first year. Maryland also moved up 1 spot to No. 24 despite the loss to Ohio State.
