An improbable season ended in miraculous fashion for Purdue on Wednesday night.

Trailing Arizona 35-31 in the final minutes of the Foster Farms Bowl, the Boilermakers needed a touchdown to take the lead late in the game. That’s when Elijah Sindelar fired a pass deep down field, targeting receiver Anthony Mahoungou. Draped by a Wildcat defender, Mahoungou made an adjustment, hauled in a ridiculous catch and fought his way into the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown.

It ended up being the game-winner, too, as Purdue held on for a 38-35 win in the Foster Farms Bowl.

That was the second touchdown reception for Mahoungou on the day and Sindelar’s fourth touchdown pass.

With the win, Purdue finished the season 7-6, ending with a winning record and a bowl victory for the first time since 2011. Those are two accomplishments that seemed nearly impossible at the start of the 2017 season.

Mahoungou’s game-winning catch will definitely be a moment that lives on in Purdue history for quite some time.
