Greg McElroy thinks that more and more people will start to take notice of JJ McCarthy’s game as the season goes on.
McCarthy is coming off of a 4-touchdown performance against Michigan State. He threw for 287 yards passing as well. Michigan won over its in-state rival 49-0.
McElroy praised McCarthy on Sunday’s edition of Always College Football, stating the Michigan quarterback is playing at an elite level. McElroy believes Heisman voters will start to pay attention.
“I do believe that when he has a bigger platform later into the season that people will start to take notice. There’s no reason why J.J. McCarthy shouldn’t be in the Heisman mix, he’s playing terrific football,” said McElroy. “Of course, Blake Corum is in the mix and he’s a great player, but the Michigan offense is different this year because of McCarthy’s progress and how he’s (McCarthy) developed over time.”
McCarthy is one of the bigger reasons why Michigan is undefeated heading into Week 9. He has 1,799 yards passing with 21 total touchdowns so far.
Two very important games are coming up for the Wolverines in the future. Michigan travels to Happy Valley to face Penn State on Nov. 11. Then Michigan takes on Ohio State on Nov. 25 to end the regular season.
If McCarthy ends up winning the Heisman, it would be the Wolverines’ first winner since Charles Woodson (1997).
