Cade McNamara officially announced via social media this week that he will be returning to Iowa City for the 2024 season after suffering a season ending ACL tear injury against Michigan State in Week 5.
A report came out just over 3 weeks ago that said McNamara had decided to stay for another year, but the Hawkeyes QB made it official with the following message to fans Wednesday night.

McNamara is a Michigan transfer and had a good, not great start to his Iowa career before suffering his injury. He completed over 50% of his passes for 505 yards, 4 touchdowns and 3 interceptions as part of an Iowa program which is not exactly renowned for its passing attack.
The 5th-year QB is eligible for another season due to the Covid-19 pandemic granting an extra year of eligibility.
Deacon Hill is running the show now for the Hawkeyes, who have also lost Erick All and Luke Lachey to season-ending injuries. Without 2 of the team’s better pass catchers Hill has struggled, throwing for 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in 7 total appearances this season.
The Hawkeyes face off against Northwestern next Saturday after the Week 9 bye.
