Tommy DeVito made his first NFL appearance Sunday after New York Giants starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor went down with an injury.

The former Illinois quarterback was released by the Giants in August following preseason play, but was elevated ahead of Sunday’s game with quarterback Daniel Jones out with a neck injury.

Taylor went down with an injury in the 2nd quarter, so now DeVito will be at the helm for the remainder of Sunday’s game. DeVito played just a handful of snaps before halftime, missing his only 2 passes.

Now DeVito is looking to have a big 2nd half for the Giants to try and earn a permanent spot on the roster. With the Giants’ current lack of depth at quarterback, DeVito could be a solid option moving forward.

In his sole season with Illinois last season, DeVito recorded 2,650 yards and 15 touchdowns. He initially planned to stay for another season at Illinois, but his eligibility was denied by the NCAA.
