Ohio State promotes assistant coach Ryan Day following NFL overture

The NFL came calling but that didn’t stop Ryan Day from staying loyal to Urban Meyer and the Ohio State program.
After only one season in Columbus, Day was approached by new Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel to become the offensive coordinator in Nashville. Day’s selection made sense for the fact that Day learned Chip Kelly’s offense under the former Oregon coach. Considering Marcus Mariota’s obvious connections to Kelly, the fit was in place for Day with the Titans.
Be that as it may, Day is staying in Columbus for at least another season. Ohio State has officially promoted Day to offensive coordinator. An interesting move, considering last season’s OC, Kevin Wilson, is still on staff in Columbus.
Meyer released the following statement after promoting Day:
“He has been approached by other schools numerous times this offseason for coordinator and head coach opportunities, and by the National Football League for a coordinator opportunity. I am pleased that he has elected to continue to work on this staff.”
According to Dan Hope of Eleven Warriors, Day tough decision makes sense if you consider Meyer’s request of all his coaches to stay on for at least two seasons.
Urban Meyer has asked his assistant coaches at Ohio State to make a two-year commitment for the Buckeyes. So far, every assistant coach he has hired has held to that commitment. Ryan Day, in doing so, turned down overtures to become NFL offensive coordinator and a SEC head coach.
