Robert Griffin III made it clear that he doesn’t think Michigan gained an advantage by allegedly stealing signs.
Griffin appeared on Get Up on Tuesday to talk about the NCAA’s investigation.
Griffin believes in due process and facts. He said that if Michigan did something wrong, then something needs to happen. He also stated that it didn’t make sense to punish Jim Harbaugh before the investigation is over.
“My first reaction is what are the facts? If they broke the rules, then something needs to happen. You do have to allow due process to run its course. So, I don’t understand trying to suspend Jim Harbaugh if we don’t know the entire investigation has been completed,” said Griffin. “If you say, ‘Well, there’s a lot of noise from the outside.’ If everybody else wants to jump off of bridge, you gonna jump off a bridge? No, you’re take your qualitative analysis and decide what you want to do.”
At the end of the day, Griffin didn’t believe that the illicit sign stealing gave Michigan an advantage. As a former player, Griffin noted how teams would try to steal signs all the time and you would have to change them each week.
He noted how he thought the entire investigation was bogus and may have used a different word for it.
“In this regard the thing that comes to mind for me is the sign stealing and is it an unfair advantage to Michigan. I don’t know about you guys, but we all played. Every team we played against knew our signals,” said Griffin. “They actually try to do that, so you have to change them every single week. I don’t think it actually gave Michigan an unfair advantage on the football field and that’s this is a lot of bullshit.”
