Let’s just say Rutgers is willing to go far and wide to find the right players to turn around the program.

Chris Ash didn’t just travel across the country to visit a commit. He traveled across the world.

The Rutgers coach and director of recruiting communications Omar Hales went all the way to Sweden to have an in-home visit with Robin Jutwreten, who is verbally committed to the Scarlet Knights’ 2018 class:

Jutwreten committed to Rutgers back in early January, which was in part because of his relationship with sophomore offensive lineman Sam Vretman (according to NJ.com). Jutwreten also took an on-campus visit on Jan. 20.

The 3-star recruit is the No. 1 ranked player in Sweden and the No. 91 weak-side defensive end in the 2018 class.

But while Ash made the 8-hour flight to see the 6-4, 235-pound commit and eat some Swedish cuisine (Swedish meatballs were on the menu), the Rutgers also wanted to check out the recruiting scene in Sweden. Perhaps the Rutgers coach will begin a new European trend in the college game.

Jutwreten is expected to sign his National Letter of Intent on February 7 and join the team this summer.

Rutgers’ 2018 class is currently ranked No. 12 in the B1G and No. 51 nationally.
