Another preseason poll favors the Buckeyes. Imagine that?

ESPN came out with its national power rankings this afternoon, highlighted of course by the defending national champions at No. 1.

Michigan State came in at No. 8 while Wisconsin was ranked No. 19.

The poll takes into account the opinions of ESPN Insiders Phil Steele, Brad Edwards, Brock Huard and Sharon Katz. Each team was given a projected win total, a projected chance to win the conference and their Vegas odds to win a national title.

Here’s how each Big Ten team stacked up.

1. Ohio State

Projected regular season win total: 11.4

Projected chance to win conference: 62.5%

Vegas odds to win national title: 5-2

Quotable: “A coach’s best friend is a running back who can shoulder the load while you figure other things out. What Ezekiel Elliott did at the end of last season might be the best illustration of that I’ve ever seen,” Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said.

8. Michigan State

Projected regular season win total: 9.5

Projected chance to win conference: 15.7%

Vegas odds to win national title: 20-1

Quotable: “Since I’ve been here, people have always talked about Michigan and about Ohio State and left us in the dust,” Michigan State quarterback Connor Cook said.

19. Wisconsin

Projected regular season win total: 8.5

Projected chance to win conference: 8.7%

Vegas odds to win national title: 100-1

Quotable: ESPN College football writer Brian Bennett on Wisconsin: “Gordon’s gone and a new coach, Chryst, arrives. But the Badgers will still pound the rock with emerging star Corey Clement and lean on a tough-as-nails defense.”
