Brady Hoke is a longtime coach with a career that spans 4 decades. The former head coach at Michigan began his time as a coach all the way back in 1981, and he is finally reaching the end of his time on the sidelines.

Monday morning, San Diego State announced Hoke has confirmed his plans to retire at the end of the 2023 season. Hoke has been the head coach for the Aztecs during two different stints (2009-10; 2020-present) and is 7th in SDSU history with 39 career victories.

“I am proud of what we accomplished at San Diego State,” Hoke said. “I am grateful to all the great student-athletes I’ve had the chance to work with, molding them into men, husbands, fathers and pillars in the community. I will always cherish my time leading this program. I’d also like to thank the wonderful staff I’ve worked with and wish them the best in the future.”

Hoke’s most notable tenure came during his time at Michigan from 2011-14, but he also spent 2003-08 as the head coach of Ball State in addition to his time leading the Aztecs. Hoke served as the interim head coach for Tennessee over a 2-game span in 2017.

In addition to those stops, he served as an assistant coach for Michigan from 1995-2002 and spent a brief time in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers. Overall, Hoke has gone 104-89 in his coaching career.

Hoke’s best season with the Wolverines included an 11-2 mark his first season with the program, complete with a Suger Bowl win following the 2011 season. He finished 31-20 overall in Ann Arbor.

Best of luck to Hoke as he prepares to step into retirement!
