Ryan Day spoke Thursday during his coaches show prior to Week 12’s matchup against Minnesota.
The Ohio State head coach was asked about the presence of veteran LB Cody Simon coming in for Tommy Eichenberg, who missed Saturday’s win over Michigan State.
Here’s what Day had to say about Simon’s impact on the blowout win:
“He had a couple injuries early on but that’s another guy who played on special teams, and the more you play on special teams the better a football player you become. Like you said, he was stepping in in a big way and we’re going to need him, need his veteran approach. He’s got leadership, he’s a great teammate and a great player.”
Here’s video of the interaction:

Eichenberg’s status for Week 12 against Minnesota is still up in the air, but Day has expressed some optimism that he could return this week against the Golden Gophers.
