Justin Fields made his return to the gridiron Sunday for the Chicago Bears against the Detroit Lions. And so far, the former Ohio State QB has played very well.
Fields delivered one of his best throws of the season against one of the best teams in the NFL, stepping up in the pocket before darting a 40-yard throw to former Maryland star DJ Moore for a go-ahead touchdown midway through the 3rd quarter.

Fields is up to 162 passing yards on 15-of-20 completions with 1 touchdown and zero interceptions. He’s also used his legs well, sitting at 55 rushing yards through 2 and a half quarters.
Fields suffered a thumb injury during Chicago’s loss to Minnesota earlier in the season. Tyson Bagent took over in his stead and had some good moments paired with some bad ones, but it’s obvious that this is still Fields’ team.
The former Buckeye is playing to keep his future starting spot right now, though. Chicago has 2 high picks this upcoming offseason, one from Carolina which currently sits at the No. 1 spot with the worst record in the league.
If Fields struggles as he did before his injury, the Bears are likely to select a quarterback for competition at the position moving forward.
Let’s see what he can do in the final 6 and half games of the 2023 season.
