Nick Henrich spent 5 seasons as a part of the Nebraska football program. Now, the veteran linebacker is calling it a wrap on his football career, announcing the move to hang things up Wednesday afternoon.

According to Henrich’s statement, the decision came about after conversations with doctors, trainers, his coaches and family. He looked back on his career with a grateful heart and “zero regrets” for his career and time in the sport.

Here’s what Henrich had to say about the decision:

After lots of prayer and conversations with doctors, trainers, coaches, and my parents I have come to realize that it is time to hang up the cleats. This game of football has taught me endless lessons and molded me into the man I am today. I have been so blessed to meet so many incredible people and to have had an amazing career for so long. The relationships that I’ve made along the way will last a lifetime and that is something I am most grateful for. Looking back I can say I gave everything I had, have zero regrets, and have done everything I’ve wanted to do. All the ups, the downs, the tackles, the big plays, and playing in front of so many amazing fans have made this the best ride of my life. Thank you to all my coaches, teammates, friends and family that have helped me along the way, I couldn’t be more excited to see what the next chapter brings! Thank you Football. 42/3 out.

Henrich originally joined the program as a 4-star recruit and the top player from Nebraska in the 2019 recruiting class. He went on to post 205 career tackles — including a career-high 99 stops in 2021 — but battled injuries throughout. Henrich appeared in just 5 games during the 2022 season and tore his ACL in overtime against Wisconsin.
