Illinois RB, major contributor in 2023, confirms transfer portal plans

One Illinois RB is opting to test the transfer portal waters after a strong showing in 2023.
That player is Reggie Love III, the leading rusher for the Illini this past season. Love is a four-year player for Illinois after joining the program in 2020 and confirmed his plans on Thursday. He will have one year of eligibility left at his next destination.
“I want to thank the University of Illinois for welcoming me with open arms since day 1. I love and cherish every moment,” wrote Love. “… With that being said, after praying on it and discussing with my family, I have decided to enter my name in the transfer portal with my last year of eligibility left. Look forward to see what’s next!”

Love was limited to 8 games during the 2023 season, but he still managed to set career-high numbers across the board. He led the Illini with 116 carries for 567 yards and 4 rushing touchdowns.
Love’s best performance came with 140 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns against Indiana in a win, and he also delivered 106 rushing yards in the season-ending loss to Northwestern.
