Iowa defensive lineman Anterio Thompson hit the portal on Monday, as announced by his social media account.

Thompson had a big role on the special teams unit for Iowa this season, blocking 2 punts. He played in 7 games this year.

The Iowa special teamer hailed from Iowa Western Community College before joining the Hawkeyes’ program. He has 2 years of eligibility left.

Here’s what he had to say about the move:

“First and foremost, I would like to thank the entire Iowa coaching staff, more specifically Coach Bell, for allowing me to play in Black and Gold this season and for letting me be apart of this amazing program,” said Thompson. “The memories I have made here are going to stick with me for the rest of my life. After talking to my family and those close to me, I have decided to enter the portal with 2 years of eligibility left.”

Thompson was rated as a 3-star DL in the 2023 JUCO class. The 247Sports Composite JUCO ranked him as the No. 5 DL and No. 3 transfer for Iowa.

The Hawkeyes are 10-3 heading into the Citrus Bowl where they will be facing Tennessee. The 2 teams last met each other in the TaxSlayer Bowl in 2015.

Kickoff from Camping World Stadium will be on New Year’s Day at 1 p.m. ET on ABC.
