Jim Harbaugh has pulled off the 3-peat, leading Michigan to 3 straight B1G titles and another College Football Playoff appearance. As a result, he’s going to cash in with some key bonus figures.
According to Aaron McMann with MLive Sports, Harbaugh’s full pay for the 2023 season will exceed $10 million. That gives Harbaugh a second straight season earning 8 figures in salary at Michigan.
Overall, Harbaugh has triggered more than $2 million in bonuses for Michigan’s performance this season. Per Harbaugh’s reworked contract from February 2022, he will receive a $1 million bonus after another B1G title.
The head coach will also receive a pair of $500,000 bonuses for winning the B1G East division and leading the team to another Playoff appearance. Should Michigan pull off a national title, that championship would trigger another $1 million bonus.

Harbaugh entered 2023 with a base pay of around $7.2 million, and he was already set to receive a $1 million contribution to his retirement funds that is due on Dec. 31. With the bonuses already triggered, Harbaugh is set to eclipse $10 million in salary for all of 2023.
The future for Harbaugh will be unclear entering the offseason with another NCAA investigation into his program. The Wolverines and Harbaugh could always reach an agreement on a long-term contract, but there is also a growing belief the head coach will test the NFL job market once again.
