Booger McFarland gave his own personal ranking of the College Football Playoff teams this week on the “Always College Football” podcast. When host Greg McElroy asked McFarland who he would pick to win it all, he chose the Texas Longhorns.
“Forget everything else, let’s just take the four teams now and rank them based on the eye test and the talent,” the ESPN analyst said. “I think Texas is one, Alabama’s two, Michigan is three, and Washington is four.”
McFarland added that the biggest concern for the Huskies is how they will adjust to a different style of game, or “big boy football” as he termed it. He added that Texas’ biggest concern is its pass defense, while Alabama’s is if Jalen Milroe can win a game with his arm from the pocket.
For the Wolverines, McFarland looked at the signal-caller.
“If you’re Michigan, which J.J. McCarthy is going to show up?” McFarland said.
The College Football Playoff will begin with No. 1 Michigan and No. 4 Alabama squaring off in the Rose Bowl at 4 p.m. ET on New Year’s Day. No. 2 Washington will then take on No. 3 Texas at 8:45 p.m. ET in the Sugar Bowl.
