Jayden Daniels has made it official. The Heisman Trophy winner will not suit up for No. 13 LSU against Wisconsin in the ReliaQuest Bowl.

Daniels addressed the bowl matchup when formally declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft on Monday.

Daniels had a stellar season, leading the nation in total offense (412.2 yards per game), passing touchdowns (40), touchdowns responsible for (50), yards per pass attempt (11.7), yards per play (10.71), and rushing yards by a quarterback (1,134). The LSU quarterback, who posted the highest passer efficiency rating (208.01) in FBS history, won Associated Press Player of the Year award, along with the Davey O’Brien, Walter Camp, Johnny Unitas and was an All-American by 4 major organizations.

In Daniels’ absence, LSU will turn to Garrett Nussmeier, a backup with experience. A redshirt sophomore, Nussmeier has played in 17 games over 3 seasons. Last year, Nussmeier played in the SEC Championship Game against Georgia, setting an LSU record for passing yards in a half with 294 over the final 2 quarters.

LSU WR Malik Nabers, who led the nation in receiving yards with 1,546, has confirmed he will play in the bowl game as he chases a school record. Fellow Tiger wideout Brian Thomas Jr. led the nation in touchdown receptions with 15 in 2023.

The ReliaQuest Bowl is set for a noon ET kickoff from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida on New Year’s Day. The game will air on ESPN2.
