Urban Meyer discusses Ohio State’s QB situation following Joe Burrow’s transfer

Earlier this month, Ohio State QB Joe Burrow announced he was transferring, setting off a frenzy of teams trying to get him to commit to their school.
What that means for the Buckeyes, though, is that the starting quarterback job is basically Dwayne Haskins’ to lose now.
On Monday, coach Urban Meyer confirmed that Haskins will likely get the first crack at the starting job this summer and fall (via CantonRep.com):
“This is really the first time I’ve talked about this since the spring game, but as of now it looks like Dwayne Haskins will get the first opportunity to be the starter,” he said. “Dwayne is a young guy that came in against our rivals and did a heck of a job. You go back and watch that again, he came in on the first drive and took us down the field and scored on that first drive against that defense. So he’s got a great release, he’s got good size and he’s a mobile-enough quarterback.
“It is going to change how we attack defenses.”
Meyer added that he holds no ill will toward Burrow for transferring, as it was the best decision for him and his family.
Now, though, Haskins has the reins to the Buckeyes’ offense, and it’ll be interesting to see how he progresses this summer.
