Clemson is entering the 2018 season with a quarterback battle between 2017 starter Kelly Bryant and incoming 5-star recruit Trevor Lawrence.
That left Hunter Johnson, a former 5-star recruit himself, as the odd man out. On Monday, he announced he was going to explore his transfer option.
Johnson, an Indiana native, will look strongly at a couple of Big Ten schools for his next opportunity. Per 247Sports, Purdue and Northwestern are the favorites to land the talented quarterback:
Expect Johnson, an Indiana native, to look atPurdue andNorthwestern for his next stop, sources tell 247Sports. Due to NCAA transfer rules, Johnson will have to sit out next season and will be eligible starting in 2019. He’ll have three years of eligibility remaining when he returns to the field that year.
According to the 247Sports composite, Johnson was the No. 2 pro-style quarterback in the class of 2017 and the No. 1 overall player from the state of Indiana.
Whatever team lands him next will be getting a guy who can lead the squad for years to come, as he’ll have three years of eligibility after sitting out the 2018 season.
