Jim Harbaugh chose to fly commercial to return to Michigan Thursday night after he accepted the Los Angeles Chargers job.
He was met there by Angelique Chengelis of The Detroit News, and Harbaugh said he hoped that Michigan and the Chargers “will be like one team. These are lasting, trusting relationships.”
“Coaching here has been the love of my life outside of the family,” Harbaugh said.
One of his key assistants, Sherrone Moore, is widely expected to land the Michigan job, and Harbaugh weighed in on the possibility. Moore led Michigan to a 4-0 record as acting head coach during Harbaugh’s 2 suspensions in 2023.
“I’ll always be a loyal Wolverine,” Harbaugh told The Detroit News. “But not a better man to coach the team than Sherrone Moore. He has my vote, my support wholeheartedly. I feel like it’s in great hands.”
Moore has coached Michigan in several roles since the 2018 season.

Caught up with Harbaugh at DTW when he returned from Los Angeles tonight. (And I know the photo is lousy but we walked and talked ?♀️) https://t.co/VovLIehK9Q

A couple things — Harbaugh said his wife, Sarah, did not accompany him to Los Angeles for the second interview.
And I was told this afternoon he “insisted” on flying commercial to DTW instead of Chargers flying him home private.
