Tim Lester comes to Iowa with an extensive coaching career, including more than a decade spent as a head coach across various levels and 12 years as an offensive coordinator.

Most recently, Lester served as an analyst for the Green Bay Packers following a 6-year stint as the head coach at Western Michigan. Now, Lester arrives in Iowa City to revamp the offense left behind by Brian Ferentz.

To be the new OC of the Hawkeyes, Lester will receive a base salary of $1.1 million in 2024. That number goes up to $1.3 million in 2025. By comparison, Ferentz made $850,000 in his last year as the OC.

Ferentz had been OC of the Hawkeyes since 2017, and Iowa’s offense eclipsed 30 points per game in a full season just once. (2018 while averaging 31.2 points per game. Shortened 2020 season not included.)

Overall, the bar might seem low, but Lester has a chance to help turn things around in short order. If the Hawkeyes can improve offensively, the defense should be strong enough to keep the team competitive in the new-look B1G in 2024 and beyond.
