Former Ohio State QB Cardale Jones is gearing up to try to make the Los Angeles Chargers’ roster again this year, but he’s also giving back to his hometown.
Jones just earned deputy sheriff honors with the Ottawa County sheriff’s office in Elliston, Ohio.
According to the Port Clinton News Herald, Sheriff Steve Levorchick said having Jones as a partner in the community is a big benefit for his office:
“Cardale will be helping us to make sure we have the bond with our young people,” Levorchick said. “They don’t want to hear from a 55-year-old sheriff, but they’ll listen to Cardale.
“When he shows up in a sheriff’s office uniform instead of a football uniform, they’re going to realize cops aren’t necessarily all bad. What a great ambassador to have for the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.”
Jones will be heading out to Los Angeles soon to begin preparations for the 2018 season, but he’ll have an important role in his hometown whenever he returns this offseason.
