Michigan announces change to alcohol policy ahead of 2024 football season

Michigan fans will be able to purchase alcohol inside inside the Big House during the 2024 season, the program announced on Thursday afternoon.
The board of regents officially approved the proposal for a Class C liquor license on Thursday, per a press release from the university.
Michigan previously allowed alcohol to be sold during games inside the Yost Ice Arena and Crisler Center. After reviewing “previous alcohol sale rollouts and fan experiences” at those events, Michigan has decided to implement alcohol sales during football games.
According to the release, there have been zero reported “behavioral issues related to drunken behavior” at Yost Ice Arena or the Crisler Center since alcohol sales implemented at those venues.
The release also says that Michigan will use revenue from alcohol sales for “operational expenses.” A portion of the revenue will also be used by the university to help fund campus research projects.
Michigan joins a growing list of programs from across the country that now allow alcohol sales. The Wolverines were one of the final holdouts in the Big Ten before making this policy change.
The Wolverines’ home schedule this upcoming season includes matchups against Fresno State, Texas, USC, Minnesota, Michigan State, Oregon and Northwestern.
Michigan will open the 2024 season against Fresno State on Aug. 31.
