Dillon Gabriel is now the betting favorite to win the Heisman Trophy at multiple major sportsbooks.

Gabriel has surpassed the likes of Georgia’s Carson Beck and Texas’ Quinn Ewers en route to the top spot. Beck and Ewers opened as the favorites for the award back in February, but Gabriel is now at the top of the board at +75o to win the Heisman Trophy at ESPN BET.

Gabriel is also the favorite to win the award at BetRivers and PointsBet. He’s the co-favorite along with Beck at Caesars, FanDuel, DraftKings and BetMGM.

It’s somewhat rare for Heisman odds to shift at this point in the offseason, but it does happen. ESPN’s David Purdum spoke with SuperBook oddsmaker Chase Michaelson about the reason for the change in this case.

“I think there were some maybe influential people that hopped on it and said they liked it on some public spaces,” Michaelson told ESPN. “It’s people we respect that like Gabriel, and I think there are lots of reasons to like him.”

Gabriel transferred to Oregon this past offseason after 2 standout seasons at Oklahoma. Although the Sooners didn’t win the Big 12 in either season with Gabriel under center, he was a very productive and efficient player in Norman.

Gabriel threw for 6,828 yards and 55 touchdowns in his 2 seasons with the Sooners. He also averaged an impressive 9.5 yards per attempt last season, which ranked 6th nationally.

He now steps into an offense that Bo Nix thrived under for the past couple of seasons in Eugene. Gabriel, though, brings even more starting experience than Nix had when he first arrived on campus. Gabriel, who will turn 24 years old this December, has appeared in 50 career games at the collegiate level and is just 32 touchdowns away from matching Case Keenum’s all-time record for passing TDs in a career.

Oregon is also projected to have the kind of team success that is usually required of a Heisman Trophy hopeful. The Ducks are one of the top favorites to reach the College Football Playoff this season and are expected to compete in the Big Ten.

Oregon will open the 2024 season against Idaho on Aug. 31.
